The College has an extensive archive of material relating to its own history. In general this comprises on the one hand formal information on members of the College; dates of attendance, degrees taken, generally father’s name and status, age etc. On the other hand legal and business records concerning college finance, including records of college estates. The College has only a part-time archivist, who is not always immediately available for archive matters. In the case of queries about former members of the College, please write to or e-mail (rather than telephone) Mr C.S.L. Davies (cliff.davies@wadh.ox.ac.uk), Keeper of the Archives , for those born before 1900; for more recent members apply initially to the Development Office. We will endeavour to supply such information as we have (subject of course to legal safeguards on confidentiality in the case of the living or other recent members). For other queries, e.g., on College estates etc., please write or e-mail Mr Davies. He will indicate whether or not a visit to the archives would be advisable, and will negotiate a mutually acceptable time. Enquirers are advised to consult initially the following if they have access to copies-
We do, of course, recognise that only those with access to a major university or reference library will be able to consult such works beforehand. Moreover we maintain an annotated version of the Gardiner Registers, so it is worth enquiring whether we have additional information on a given person. If you have managed to consult any of the above, please mention it in your initial communication so that we do not waste time telling you what you already know. We try to be as helpful as possible. It is always pleasant, and indeed useful, if enquirers repay any information we are able to give by giving us information they may have on careers etc of alumni, to improve our records and to help future enquirers.
