Arrival by road

We regret that the college has no parking facilities for visitors and although Oxford does have a number of Pay & Display car parks, parking is generally very difficult within the city centre. There are only a few Pay & Display spaces available directly outside the main gate of Wadham College and overnight parking is not very safe. You are strongly recommended to make use of Oxford's Park & Ride facilities.  Please also see: Oxford Car Parking Map (pdf format) and the Park & Ride service website .

Oxford is well served by local and national bus links. Please see the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach websites if you require details of services or to book tickets.

The Oxford Tube and Oxford Express coach services run 24 hours a day between central London and central Oxford, with several convenient stops in both cities. Coaches depart every 15 mins during peak day times and at differing intervals during off-peak times. The end-to-end journey time is typically "about 100 mins", often slightly less during off-peak times, but also often lengthened by traffic congestion & roadworks.

Deliveries can be made more conveniently to the back entrance on Savile Road, which comes off Mansfield Road. There is also a side entrance on Holywell Street where cars can be parked for loading and unloading (double/single yellow line).

Arrival by rail

Oxford Station is to the west of the city centre at the end of Park End Street. It is about 15 minutes walk from Wadham. Stagecoach U1 buses, and Oxford Bus Company buses numbers 5 & 13 run regularly between the rail station and the city centre. There is also a taxi rank at the station.

Regular West Coast mainline trains running between Birmingham and London stop at Oxford station, in addition to numerous regional trains. For up to date times and booking information, please visit the National Rail web site. If you are a student arriving by train it is advisable to book a seat because the services can be very busy at the beginning and end of terms.

Arrival by air

All four major London airports (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, & Stanstead ) are conveniently accessible from Oxford, with Heathrow and Gatwick proving to be the most popular and convenient ones. Birmingham International Airport provides another alternative.

The Oxford Bus Company runs regular dedicated coach services between central Oxford and:

  • Heathrow -  every 30 mins peak, hourly off-peak; typically 80 mins to the central bus station & 100 mins to Terminal 4;
  • Gatwick - every hour peak, bi-hourly off-peak; typically about 120-150 mins to the North & South terminals.

Access information

During the past few years, Wadham has introduced a number of accessibility measures, both physical and operational. For full details, please download our access leaflet.
