Networking and internet access Registering your Laptop/PC on the network A web-based PC registration system is in use at Wadham. Upon attempting to view a webpage in a web-browser, unregistered PCs get redirected to a webpage inviting them to register (either as a member of Wadham College or a guest). Users should enter their details as requested, agree to abide by the AUP and then leave their PC on for a period of time. If you have any issues registering please contact the IT department on (2)77988/77594. Additional notes/requirements for computers connected to the network.Because of the inherent security issues with wireless access points and the potential for them to be used as attack paths against the college and University networks and servers, students are forbidden to use their own wireless access points at either Wadham or the Merifield site. Our working assumption is that each student wanting to use the network will directly connect a laptop or desktop PC to the ethernet socket in their room (or public points such as those in the library etc.). Network devices such as hubs, switches or routers should not be connected to the network without prior approval of the IT manager. Similarly, if you wish to connect any other device (e.g. games console) to the network or run a server, please check with Wadham IT beforehand. |
