Printing in Merifeld

Printing to the Merifield Printer

The student printer room is located under the arch between Blocks A and B. To be able to print directly to it from a student PC you will need to be connected to the ethernet and then follow the appropriate instructions for your operating system below. You will need to give your Wadham College computer room (CCR) username and password when connecting to the printer.

New students: please note that these instructions will once you if you have already logged into CCR account and changed the initial password to something else.

Windows 2000/XP

METHOD 1

  1. Open any Explorer window and type the following in the address bar:

    \\wadh-betty

You will be prompted for a username and password - this is your Wadham Computer Room account username and password. Please contact Wadham IT If you haven't got a Computer Room account (typically this would be if you are a non-Wadham student residing at Merifield).

  2. If you cannot get past this stage please retry specifying your username in the format WADHAM\wadhnnnn

  3. You should then see the Merifield Laserjet printer (named "merifield" in the example here):

  4. Right click the printer icon and select Connect:
    windowsxp printer merifield 2

  5. If you see a message asking if you want to re-install the drivers or use existing ones, select the reinstall option.

  6. You should now be able to print to the printer but may need to go through these steps each time you re-start your computer.

METHOD 2

  1. Open any Explorer window and type the following in the address bar:

    \\wadh-betty

You will be prompted for a username and password - this is your Wadham Computer Room account username and password.

  2. If you encounter problems at this point please retry specifying your username in the format WADHAM\wadhnnnn

  3. Open the Printers and Faxes window (from Control Panel) and double click Add Printer.

  4. Click the first Next button, then choose the Network Printer option in the Local or Network Printer screen. Click Next.

  5. In the Specify a Printer screen (as shown below), select the Connect to this Printer option.
Type \\wadh-betty\ in the Name box - the full name of the printer should be suggested to you automatically. Select the full name and click Next

  6. Say Yes to any warnings about connecting to this printer - this allows your PC to get a copy of the print drivers it will need to be able to print.

  7. Choose whether you want the Merifield student printer to be your default printer or not (we recommend not, if you have a printer directly plugged into your PC) and click Next. Click Finish to finish the printer setup.

    \\wadh-betty

  2. You will be prompted for a username and password - this is your Wadham Computer Room account username and password.

  4. Right click the printer icon and select Connect:
    Windows printing 2

Note

You should only have to add the printer once, but you will have to log into domain as described above each time you wish to print.

In other words, you must authenticate to the domain once, before you try to print (one or more times). This authentication is broken/lost everytime you restart your computer.

Please report any difficulties to Wadham IT.
