Ken Macdonald QC, Warden of Wadham College
Lord Macdonald of River Glaven joined Wadham as Warden in September 2012.
Whether you are a school student thinking of applying to study with us, a member of Wadham College, or a visitor, I am delighted to welcome you to our website.
This community was founded over 400 years ago by Dorothy Wadham, the redoubtable wife of Nicholas, who died before seeing his legacy made real. The alma mater of Christopher Wren, and the seventeenth century home of those brilliant polymaths who created the Royal Society, Wadham College has always been a place of vivid intellectual grace and great imagination.
So, although our buildings and gardens are famously lovely, what is really beautiful about Wadham is that its lawns and quadrangles were created to build knowledge and learning. That’s what we’re here for and we’re very proud to proclaim it.
This is a liberal and progressive community, made up of people of all backgrounds, with an optimistic view of human life, understanding the rigour and grandeur of our intellectual heritage and its place alongside the promise of the modern world.
I hope that you may find something of our spirit in these pages and, if you are not already here, that you’ll find time to visit us soon.
Ken Macdonald QC
