Access & Widening Participation PDF Print

Wadham welcomes applicants from all schools and colleges, and selects candidates solely on the basis of academic ability and potential, assessing achievement in the light of individual circumstances.  A high proportion of our students come from state schools or college, and a sizeable minority come from other countries in the European Union, or from further afield.  We encourage applications from students currently under-represented at Oxford and value the contributions that can be made by individuals with a wide range of experiences.

Open Days

The next Open Day will be held on 16th September 2011.

Wadham welcomes the attendance of teachers and school or college groups at the College Open Days. Whilst teachers are asked not to join with the students for subject-specific talks we hope that those booked on will be able to join our tutors at lunch and take this opportunity to discuss the admissions process and studying at Oxford. The Tutor for Admissions is available throughout the day to answer general queries about the College and the admissions process.  Online booking is now open for these days for both small school groups and for individuals.  Please click here to book a place.

Whilst the main Open Day for the University is held on 16th September 2011, other departments and colleges may run events on alternative dates, so do check the University's webpage for details of these, clicking on the red boxes for the different subject and college details.

Visits to Wadham College

The Admissions Office is happy to arrange visits from teachers and school or college groups (normally Year 12, or advanced Year 11, students) throughout the course of the year. If you would like to organise a trip to Wadham College please contact:

The Access & Admissions Administrator
Wadham College
Oxford OX1 3PN
Tel: 01865 277545
Email: admissions@wadh.ox.ac.uk

We are also able to visit schools to talk about Oxford, Wadham and the admissions process. If you would like to discuss the possibility of someone coming to visit your school then please contact us using the address listed above.

Aspiration Days

We also offer Aspiration Days for groups of Year 9, 10 or 11 students to open up the possibilities of Higher Education and to encourage students to think about going to University (and not just specifically Oxford).  These visits will give students the opportunity to have lunch in the college, to meet current undergraduate students, to tour facilities, and see the main University area.  The Aspiration Days also allow students to take part in academic sessions designed to stimulate students' interests in varied subjects.  The sessions will be appropriate to the year, while also encouraging students to have some understanding of how students study at University level.

Aspiration Days follow a standard format, although the programme can be modified to suit a school's individual requirements.  A sample programme is available.

In order to maximise resources, we are offering events with multiple schools in 2011.  If you are interested in booking an Aspiration Day at Wadham, please contact us using the address listed above.  Please note that we can only provide a limited number of Aspiration Days per year, and appreciate a contribution toward the costs of lunches from schools or colleges, if possible.

Due to popular demand, we have very limited availability for Aspiration Days during the 2010-11 academic year.  Schools might like to consider Oxford Taster Days for Year 10 students, or educational trips to the University Museums.  A Teachers' conference is also planned at Lincoln College in March 2011 - please click on the links in the text for further information about these events. The university also seeks to work with the local community, and runs programmes for state school students aged 10-16 (Year 5 to Year 11) in Oxfordshire, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, to help them understand what they could gain from further or higher education, and what type of study might suit them best.  If you are interested in finding out more about the varied programmes on offer in these areas, please see the mini-site which explains what is currently on offer and how to get involved.
