Mature Students The College welcomes mature applicants. When considering mature student applications, tutors take into account formal academic qualifications, together with details of any employment since leaving school and any professional qualifications. Given the strong competition for places in Oxford colleges, tutors will be looking for evidence of suitability for the chosen course and that applicants have appreciated the demands of a full-time undergraduate degree in Oxford, which involves three eight-week terms. Applicants who lack formal qualifications may be advised to consider taking one or two A-levels, perhaps through evening classes with a local College of Further Education; or to take one of the Access courses specifically designed as preparation for degree work, which are offered by institutions of further and higher education throughout the country (including that at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education); or to take an Open University Foundation course. See individual subject websites and the Undergraduate Prospectus for more details. 2nd BAs The College welcomes applications from students wishing to study for a second undergraduate degree having completed a first degree. The application procedure is the same as for applicants for a first degree, although 2nd BA applicants will be expected to submit a transcript of their first degree to the College; please see the Undergraduate Prospectus for full details. 2nd BA applicants who are applying for senior status (direct entry into the second year) are also advised to contact the Wadham Tutorial Office at the time of application to confirm if places in that subject at the College are available. Visiting Students Wadham considers applications from visiting students who have a clear and defined research proposal which ties in to the research interests of a college tutor. If you would like to discuss making an application please contact the Tutorial Office. Visiting students are here primarily for research, and for this reason they do not study for any qualifications from Oxford. Please note: the College regrets that it cannot consider applications from visiting students in Law. Wadham also has a one-year Visiting Student programme in connection with Sarah Lawrence College in New York. For more information on this, please see the Sarah Lawrence Exchange section. |
