Dr Cláudia Pazos Alonso, MA, DPhil (MA Lond). Research interests include: 19th and 20th Portuguese and Brazilian Literature and Literature from Portuguese-speaking Africa, especially poetry and prose fiction; genre and gender, canon-formation; women writers and images of women; the role of literature in post-colonial representations of the nation. Courses taught (undergraduate and graduate) Clarice Lispector; Eça de Queirós; Portuguese Modernism (ie Fernando Pessoa; Sá-Carneiro; Florbela Espanca); Twentieth Century Portuguese Women Writers; The Literature of Portuguese–speaking Africa. Current Project My next major research project, provisionally entitled Between Portugal and Paris: modernity and negotiations of identity in Portuguese fiction (1890-1915), investigates late 19th and early 20th century Portuguese literature within a broader European fin de siècle and modernist context
