Royal Society University Research Fellow Lecturer in Physical Chemistry Tutorial Fellow, Wadham College Research Interests Dr Mark Wallace, MA (MSci Bristol; PhD Camb) is interested in understanding the behaviour of membrane proteins. By chemically modifying a protein with a fluorescent label we can study this behaviour at the level of individual molecules. Single-molecule microscopy gives us many unique insights into protein function. For example, we can observe sub-populations and kinetic intermediates that would be undetectable in an ensemble measurement.
