His award is for services to business, entrepreneurship and philanthropy.

Anthony opened the first Pets at Home store in Chester in 1991. The chain now comprises some 400 stores and more than 6,000 employees. The company was floated on the London stock market in March 2014 at a valuation of £1.2bn.

In addition to devoting time to entrepreneurship and leadership organisations, Anthony and his wife Margaret have been active in local, national and international charities, working in the areas of the homeless, children, pets and conflict resolution.

A Foundation Fellow of Wadham College and former Chair of the Development Council, the College has benefited not only from his personal generosity but from Anthony's visionary leadership  of Wadham's fundraising activities.
