Gareth did his undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Nottingham University, and went on to do a Masters in Applied Mathematics at Manchester. His current research focuses on the quantitative aspects of Synthetic Biology, particularly the use and application of Control Engineering concepts within Synthetic Biology.

Academic excellence was what attracted him to apply to Oxford for his DPhil and although not familiar with the collegiate system, Gareth considers himself lucky to have got a place at Wadham. “There is a fantastic level of support here and the social side is excellent. It is great to be able to chat with Professors from such a wide range of subjects,” he said.

In his new role as MCR President Gareth hopes to improve internal communications among MCR members and to help involve the MCR in the life of the College as much as possible. “I will be very happy to push forward the suggestions and ideas of MCR members,” he added.

Gareth is from Anglesey in Wales, where he attended a Welsh language school, Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern. He is a keen runner and is currently learning to speak Spanish and play the piano. Missing his three dogs he is keen to walk Jonah, the College welfare dog, whenever he can.
