2015 and 2016 leavers proudly commemorated their time at Wadham by making Wadham College more accessible for future students and the 2017 leavers are looking to do the same. Leavers from the past two years, helped by alumni donors who matched their generosity, funded the stair lift into Hall, and made the JCR bar fully wheelchair accessible.
This year, the #IGaveToDorothy Committee is chaired by Poppy Stokes (Classics, 2013) and Constance Van Stroud (History and Russian, 2013).
Commenting on the campaign, Poppy says: “After working on a number of fundraising events with the Development Office throughout my time at Wadham, I was thrilled to have a final opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the College. Not only does the campaign help foster a great sense of community amongst those who give but also the causes the project helps to fund will hopefully have a lasting effect on the Wadham community in years to come.”
The #IGaveToDorothy committee are using events, media, and their peer networks to galvanize support for the campaign and generous Wadham alumni have offered to match the leavers’ gifts.
The campaign was launched at a wine and cheese evening in the McCall MacBain Graduate Centre, with leavers celebrating and making their gifts. Only one week after the launch, almost 20% of leavers have already given to #IGaveToDorothy, releasing almost £2,000 in matched funding. The campaign will run until the end of the academic year.
