Lucas will take up his role as VP Access and Academic Affairs in June 2018.

Among his manifesto promises are to work toward new and tougher targets for access to the University of Oxford, reductions in the attainment gap and consistent academic standards.

“We are very privileged to go to Oxford – we have to use our places here to fight for those who are less privileged than us,” he commented.

Thanking those that voted for him he said: “I'm incredibly honoured to have been elected Oxford SU VP for access and academic. Oxford SU is a unique opportunity that students get to engage with the University and set policy at the highest levels. I'll do my absolute best in the role.”

A former pupil of St Olave’s Grammar School in Orpington, South London, Lucas is a keen member of Oxford University Quiz Society and is an active member of the Wadham SU.

Of the 16 SU roles available this year, Wadham scooped four. Jack Wands and Ivy Manning (both PPE, 2016) were elected student trustees, and Sam Dunnett (English, 2015) a NUS delegate.
