Kishan Makwana (Physics, 2015), Alicja Boryn (Biological Sciences, 2015), and Jacob Armstrong (German, 2014) are chairing this year’s #IGaveToDorothy campaign. They will be raising funds to support Wadham’s access work as a ‘thank you’ from students as they leave Wadham and become alumni.
Commenting on why he feels the leavers gift is important Kishan said: "Upon graduation, it’s safe to say that everyone has benefitted from their time at Wadham, so the leaver’s gift is not just a small gesture of gratitude it’s a way to stay in touch with Wadham as we move on with our careers, enabling future generations of students to enjoy the same successes as we have.”
Jacob added: “To me, the college holds so many memories and has given me a great many opportunities - it seems only natural to give back and contribute, even in a small way, to making college more accessible so that others can have the chances I did."
“A leavers gift is important in ensuring that Wadham can continue to expand its access and outreach work, so that all students can feel welcome here,” said Alicja.
The committee is planning a variety of events to encourage peers to join them in giving back to College. These include a campaign launch party on 23 February in the McCall MacBain Graduate Centre, a booth at Wadstock, and a leavers’ photo.
Thanks to match funding from a generous alumnus, #IGaveToDorthy gifts from leavers will be effectively doubled, thus having an even greater impact on future Wadham students.
All Wadham leavers are invited to join the #IGaveToDorothy launch party. For details and more information about the #IGaveToDorothy campaign, contact Zahra Stark at firstname.lastname@example.org or +44 (0)1865 277570.
