Wadham in Australia

2nd March 2018

News, Alumni news

Wadham alumni and friends gathered in Sydney for an Australian reunion.

Whilst Oxford was under a dusting of snow, more than thirty alumni and guests gathered on a beautiful summer's evening in Sydney to celebrate their connection with Wadham and meet others living in the city.

Following the success of the recent New Zealand reunion, Wadhamites came together in Sydney to swap stories about their time at Oxford. The event was generously co-hosted by Lindsay Sharp (Modern History, 1966) and Rebecca Maslen-Stannage (Law, 1994) at Herbert Smith Freehills.

Friends travelled from as far as Perth and Melbourne to join the event and guests represented 50 years of Wadham history, spanning matriculation years from 1956 to 2016. Emeritus Fellow Professor David Mabberley also attended, and we are thrilled he will be able to join us back in Oxford later this year for the Biology Subject Reunion in June.

A more personal reunion was enjoyed by guests Dan McNaughton (Chemistry, 2013), and Philip Gale (Chemistry, 1988). Dan has recently arrived in Sydney to study for his PhD and will be supervised by fellow alum, Philip.

The Warden, Ken Macdonald QC, made a guest appearance via Skype (8am GMT!) and gave an update from College with news of academic achievements and the Access to Excellence strategy, and was able to answer questions from the group.

If you would like to organise a Wadham reunion near you, please get in touch with the Development Office (development.team@wadham.ox.ac.uk). If you are planning to return to College, we are always delighted to receive visitors and show you recent developments.
