Accommodation Manager – Students E-mail: jo-ann.wheble@wadh.ox.ac.uk All undergraduates are accommodated in College in their first year and for at least a further year, usually their final one, although there is an option to live at Merifield in their final year. We aim to offer graduates accommodation in their first year, either at Merifield or, if space is available, in College. General accommodation matters are dealt with by the Accommodation Manager, whose office is upstairs in the Bursary building and the telephone number is 2-77968. Accommodation at Wadham is mainly provided in the traditional Oxford format of staircases, housing from 6-17 students, located on the main site of the College on Parks Road. Most staircases, though not all, have a kitchen area for making drinks and light snacks. All rooms are linked to the University Ethernet and telephone systems. Staircases 1 to 7 surround the main Quadrangle and were built in 1610. Other staircases range in age from the old to the modern. All students entering college-owned accommodation are required to enter into a Residential Licence Agreement. This details what the College undertakes to provide and a student’s agreement on behaviour whilst in residence. What a student pays for accommodation at Wadham, the 'Board and Lodging' charge, is set annually by the Governing Body. The process of setting the Board and Lodgings charges involves consultation with representatives of the Students’ Union. First year undergraduates are generally accommodated in college. Continuing students participate in a ballot for rooms in the next academic year. Residence in college for undergraduates in their final year of study in Oxford is guaranteed to all that apply. Students on a fourth year course are given an option to live in college in either their third or final year, and Merifield for the other year. Graduate accommodation after the first year is allocated by way of a ballot. Accommodation in College is for the period mid-day on Thursday of 0th Week* to 10.00 am on Saturday of 8th Week in each term. The College can provide accommodation from Sunday of 0th Week for those who apply to the Accommodation Manager for Vacation Residence. (*mid-day on Wednesday of 0th Week Michaelmas Term for continuing students). Accommodation outside the above periods in vacations is by application under the Vacation Residence Scheme. Merifield The Manager of Merifield is Mr Lindsay Kennedy. He lives in a flat behind the Manager's Office in F Block. Whilst he fully accepts that he is always, in a sense, 'on duty', it would be helpful if routine queries are restricted to normal working hours only and that calls at other times are limited to emergencies and urgent matters only.
