Scholarships and Prizes PDF Print

The college offers a number of scholarships and prizes each year, usually awarded on the basis of academic merit. (For funding awarded on the basis of financial need please see the student finance section.)

Prizes
The Cheney Prize in the Arts or Social Sciences and the College Prize in Science and Mathematics are essay prizes open to undergraduates.

The Rex Warner Prize is a literary prize open to undergraduates, graduates and visiting students.

Grants
Academic Related Grants are available both to undergraduates and graduates. These are awarded to support academic work (e.g. fieldwork, conference attendance, purchase of books, etc). They include specific awards in classics to support the studies of those reading for a degree with classical content, as well as other specific awards for Clinical Medics, Oriental Studies students and History students.

Travel Grants are available to undergraduates and graduates, for travel unrelated to academic work. The Iole Kolia Travel Grant is available for travel to Greece for educational purposes.

The Sarah Lawrence exchange allows a number of Wadham students to spend three weeks of the Easter holidays at Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Graduate Scholarships
Senior, Keeley and Eprime Eshag Scholarships are open to either new or current graduate students, and are currently worth £500 per year.

The following scholarships are open to particular categories of graduate students:

Clarendon-Monkton Scholarship is open to research students in Humanities or Social Sciences. Two scholarships will be available in 2012-13. Please refer to the advertisement for futher details.

Philip Wright Scholarship is open to ex-students of Manchester Grammar School. One scholarship is expected to be available in 2013-14.

Peter Carter Scholarship is open to students reading for the BCL, MJur or MSc Law and Finance at Wadham College. One scholarship will be available in 2012-13.

John Brookman Scholarship is open to a student reading for a higher degree in the University of Oxford in any subject. The John Brookman Scholar will participate in the musical life of the College. We do not anticipate that the John Brookman Scholarship will be available again until 2015-16.

Donner-Gotlieb Scholarship is open to Canadian citizens reading for the Oxford BCL or MJur degrees at Wadham College. One scholarship will be available in 2012-13. Please refer to the advertisement for further details.

Research Council college partnership awards are fully-funded Research Council Scholarships which are partially funded by a College. Wadham currently has two such scholarships available: the Woodward Graduate Scholarship and the Mr Michell's Graduate Scholarship. Undergraduate Scholarships
Undergraduate Scholarships (currently worth £200) are awarded annually on nomination not application.
