Safety and Security

Please be careful in using the library, particularly on the stairs, or when using kickstools.

Don't reach too far to the left or the right when you are standing on a kickstool. Get off, move the kickstool along, and get back on again!

Remember that if you are carrying a big pile of books in front of you, you can't see your feet!

Please do familiarize yourself with the fire exits, and where they are located. Please don't leave any items in the main aisles of the library, which are emergency exit routes.

Remember, there is a dedicated emergency phone by the entrance that connects immediately through to the Lodge, being a priority line.

Please don't leave valuables, including laptops, unattended in the library.

Special appeals

• Please don't bring food into the library - or mugs of tea/coffee etc. However, we *do* allow hot drinks in travel mugs (since they have a secure lid). A bottle of water with a cap is also fine.

LIBRARY STAFF WILL CONFISCATE ANY DRINKING VESSELS THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO THE ABOVE REGULATION!

• Age-old library request: please keep the noise levels down. Even whispering is very distracting. Our library is basically one large room, and noise travels!

• Please turn off the desk lights when you are leaving your desk for any length of time. It's good to be green.

• Please don't leave your laptop or other electronic device - or any other valuables - unattended. Thefts are fortunately very rare, but we do nevertheless have to warn you. Remember it's not just(!) the laptop you would lose, but also all the work that you have stored on it ...

• Please don't run down the stairs abruptly to answer a mobile phone. It's annoying! Walk slowly, and you won't disturb anyone else!
