Support for Undergraduates

The legacy of Covid-19 and the cost-of-living crisis have had a pronounced impact on our students' wellbeing and finances, with 1 in 5 of our undergraduates needing support. We have been able to provide this, in both practical and emotional terms, thanks to the remarkable generosity shown by our alumni.

Oxford's tutorial system is second to none. It improves students' academic lives and career prospects considerably. However, the annual cost of educating and housing a Wadham undergraduate exceeds course fees and charges, leaving the College with a significant structural financial shortfall.

Support from our alumni helps us to maintain the tutorial system so that our students can continue to benefit from it. This support has enabled us to provide welfare support and hardship assistance to many students, ensuring that they do not have to compromise their learning.

Wadham was able to disburse over £960k in research awards, bursaries and other financial assistance to our students in 2021-22. This is thanks to the 21% of alumni who made a gift that year as well as those who have donated in previous years. Your generosity has given some of the best and brightest students from the UK and beyond the opportunity to thrive in our diverse community and to leave a positive mark not only on the College but also on the wider world.

With more funding, we could help on-course students by:

  • Providing bridging support for 1st years.
  • Offering targeted academic support for undergraduates who need it, e.g. funding for reading lists.
  • Organising careers support for students who find this difficult to access.

We are always pleased to hear from you. Please do get in touch to discuss how your donation can make a difference.
