We are delighted to announce a record-breaking total for Wadham’s 2013 Telethon: the £200,000 target for this year’s appeal was vastly exceeded with an exceptional £225,000 raised over two weeks of intensive calling, and two further donations from exceedingly generous alumni taking us to over £580,000 in total.

Alumni of all ages and from all corners of the world spoke with our 13 student callers and more than 51% decided to support our regular giving programme - the Wadham Fund. This is by far the largest total of any Wadham Telethon and the highest participation rate ever achieved.

This extraordinary total is thanks to, in large part, more than 43% of donors choosing to commit to a regular donation. Regular gifts of anywhere from £5 per month to several hundred pounds per month make a very significant difference to Wadham’s ability to support our students and secure our teaching provision year on year. Regular donors to this year’s appeal included one of our recent leavers, who matriculated in 2006 and decided to support the College with a gift of £5 per month to the Wadham Fund, as well as an alumnus who matriculated in 1951 and who generously increased his annual donation of 16 consecutive years.

Vitally, your donations will make a real and immediate difference to Wadham.

A special impetus was given to Wadham’s regular giving scheme by two of our major benefactors, John McCall MacBain and Stephen Stow, who wished to join this growing group of regular donors and help lead the way in encouraging all alumni to give their “best gift” to Wadham on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. We have some ambitious plans for ensuring that Wadham’s regular giving programme becomes “best in class” in the coming years, across Oxford, and across the UK, and this year’s result gives a tremendous boost to our efforts.
We are incredibly grateful to all those who took the time to speak to one of our energetic students and to all those who decided to demonstrate their commitment to securing Wadham’s future. Your conversations have inspired our student callers to pursue new and exciting avenues whilst they are at Oxford and have given them the vision of what life after Wadham has to offer. Vitally, your donations will make a real and immediate difference to Wadham by providing valuable support to students who experience hardship, resources for our excellent access scheme, much needed funds to maintain our tutorial system and provision to maintain the beautiful College environment.
From all of us at Wadham, let us say a very heartfelt THANK YOU for your generosity.
