The day started at Wadham’s sports ground on the Marston Ferry Road with informal games of netball and football.

“Alumni and current students mucked in, often trying a sport they did not normally play, or watching and supporting,” said organiser, Rose Stevens (Human Sciences, 2013).

At dinner in the Old Library, Rose spoke about the plan to develop a network of Wadham women who play and played sport here in the hope that the activity day and dinner becomes an annual fixture.

Representatives of the women’s netball, football, rowing, cricket, rounders, lacrosse and power lifting groups updated guests with reports of achievements and successes. Guest speaker Emma Cohen, Wadham’s Tutor in Human Sciences, spoke on why sport is so important for well-being, happiness and social bonding and that playing sport together can help increase performance in all aspects of life.

“The event was a great success” said Rose. If you are interested in taking part in future women in sport events at Wadham, please let the Development Office know.
