Benefactors' Garden Party 2017

3rd July 2017

News, Student news, Alumni news

On Saturday 24 June, the sun shone brightly on Wadham as Benefactors, family and friends came to enjoy afternoon tea in the beautiful surroundings of the Private Fellows’ Garden.

The Warden, Ken Macdonald QC, was delighted to welcome some 300 alumni, their families and friends to College, thanking them for their loyal support, guidance and encouragement. He reiterated the importance of our Access to Excellence programme and spoke of the continued momentum as we strive to support the best young talent to apply to Wadham.

It was a pleasure to welcome guests from far and wide; a special mention was given to Carmichael Wallace (1968) from Canada, Richard Fox (1966) from Australia, Tony Grundy (1974) from Singapore, and Ronald Sujithan (1994) from the US.  Alumni from across the generations were also well represented; we were delighted to welcome some of our most senior alumni, including Frank Holroyde (1942) and Peter McLean (1944), and also a number of final year students who had given to the I Gave to Dorothy campaign – a successful student-led campaign engaging close to 30% of this year’s leavers.

It was such a lovely afternoon! Fabulous food, fabulous drinks and fabulous weather!
Thank you thank you!!

It was a great privilege to join alumni and guests at that splendid party yesterday. It is always a joy to return to the college.

Thank you for a lovely party on Saturday.  The only thing wrong with it was that the time went too fast!

My 5 year-old grandson spent the afternoon energetically in the bouncy castle and didn’t want to come home. Perhaps he will aspire to be a Wadham undergraduate one day!
