The 2018 CSE Programme will be held in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Hangzhou from 2 July to 4 August, 2018.
It is a cross-cultural education program that brings Western university students (Fellows) and Chinese youth together in a learning environment intended to bridge cultures. CSE is now in its 15th year, since its first annual session in 2004. Supported by an innovative curriculum, the 2018 CSE Fellows will bring their experiences and passions as undergraduate and graduate students at world-renowned universities to lead and mentor students in Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China.
Ten Wadham students have been selected for this programme over past years, including Rebecca Rose (Law, 2014) in 2017.
Claire Devine (English, 2014) enjoyed the 2015 programme. “Working through CSE, I spent an amazing six weeks in Beijing and Hong Kong, living and teaching immersively in two incredible, if slightly overwhelming cities. I left having learned so much about a colourful and beautiful country at a really interesting point in its history, and met some really lovely students in the process. I could juggle my schedule to travel and eat my way across both of my teaching locations, managing to visit everything from the Great Wall of China to the outlying islands that surround Hong Kong.”
Louise Nolan (Engineering Science, 2015) participated in the 2016 programme. She commented: "It was an eye opening experience into eastern/Chinese culture and I have made friends from all over the world because of it."
Michael Stock (History and German, 2014) who also attended the 2016 programme added: The Crimson Summer Exchange provided a great opportunity to work with enthusiastic young students in a relaxed environment, as well as a chance to explore Hong Kong and a city in mainland China. The curriculum was extremely flexible, which meant I was able to teach topics and ideas which interested me. I met many new friends from Hong Kong, the USA and the UK, and I would highly recommend the programme to anyone who is interested."
