Gaudy Celebrations 1965-69

27th March 2018

Over 50 years since matriculation, nearly 100 alumni returned to College to celebrate their Wadham connections.

"It's been a while" was a common theme of conversation among the group of 1965-69 matriculands who returned to College for their year group Gaudy.

Guests enjoyed traditional Evensong led by Wendy Wale, the Chaplain, followed by drinks and a delicious four-course meal in Hall.

Gaudy guests - some of whom hadn't been back to Wadham for years - commented on how little College had changed since they were students. Many were thrilled to be able to stay again, some in their old rooms!

During the afternoon, guests were updated on College life today by the Warden, Ken Macdonald QC and Development Director, Julie Hage. In the 1966 Trinity Term edition of the Gazette, it was reported that membership of the Wadham Alumni Society had just reached over 1000. Just over 50 years later, Wadham's alumni community now stands at over 8000. Plans for the new access and undergraduate centres were also displayed. It was interesting to note that in the 1967 Michaelmas Term Gazette, building plans for the Holywell Quad were described as having "bold and imaginative features" - a clear theme for Wadham developments past and present.

A warm thank you to everyone who attended. More pictures from the evening, and the speeches delivered by the Warden and John Hall (Law, 1968), are available following the links below. The next Gaudy celebrations in September 2018 are for year groups 1980-85.
