Following an initiative by a group of Wadham Emeritus Fellows, a wreath, cut flowers and a single rose have been laid at the entrance and interior of Wadham Chapel with the message:

VE Day, 8 May, 1945

With gratitude for our freedom and in memory of all the fallen of World War 2, on behalf of Wadham College Oxford, 8 May 2020.

Wadham Chaplain Revd Dr Jane Baun lit candles in Chapel and recited prayers to remember members of the Wadham community who fought in World War II, those who lost their lives and those who took part in the war effort.

Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May 8 1945 marked the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender by Britain and its Allies following almost six years of brutal warfare during the Second World War.
