Kate joined Wadham in 2019 and is doing a DPhil in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics as the David Richards Scholar, focusing on the response of the Southern Ocean to wind stress forcing. She is particularly interested in eddy parameterisations and response timescales.

As MCR President, Kate plans to introduce MCR ‘families’ of around six students per group as one of her first priorities. “Some members of the MCR have felt quite isolated this year and I hope by dividing the community into supportive groups this will be easier,” she says. She also hopes to elicit ideas for future MCR activities from the global MCR membership, in order to share different cultural backgrounds and experience.

Kate studied for her undergraduate degree in Maths and Music at the University of Edinburgh and plays violin and piano as well as singing in the Wadham Chapel Choir. When not studying she can be found running, playing Frisbee and roller-skating.

Kate’s scholarship led her to Wadham but she says that if it hadn’t: “I would have chosen Wadham College – it is very welcoming and non- judgmental. I love that I have met people from all over the world here.”
