Professor Paul Acker was educated at Tufts University and Brown University. 

He recently retired from Saint Louis University, where he taught medieval literature and other subjects, including film and creative writing. Currently he is finishing a catalogue of Middle English prose manuscripts in New York City and a book on dragons in legend, art and literature.

His translation of dragon episodes in Old Norse sources and in Beowulf will soon appear in The Penguin Book of Dragons. He is also interested in Victorian medievalism among the Pre-Raphaelites, especially William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones.
