Cláudia's research interests include 19th and 20th Century Portuguese and Brazilian Literature and Literature from Portuguese-speaking Africa. She is especially interested in poetry and prose fiction; genre and gender, canon-formation; women writers and images of women; the role of literature in post-colonial representations of the nation.

Cláudia's research project, provisionally entitled Between Portugal and Paris: modernity and negotiations of identity in Portuguese fiction (1890-1915), investigates late 19th and early 20th century Portuguese literature within a broader European fin de siècle and modernist context.
