Irina Chelysheva

Biography

Irina is a senior postdoctoral researcher at Oxford Vaccine Group, Department of Paediatrics, and a Research Associate at Wadham College.

She is involved in the statistical analysis of big datasets derived from vaccine trials. In addition, Irina is developing new pipelines allowing to increase the quality of the output from deep-sequencing data.

She is proficient in R and Python programming languages and besides the research activity, Irina is organising and leading a weekly Big Data Club within the OVG and periodically delivering the programming tutorials - Code Clinic - at Big Data Institute. Irina is a developer and tutor of Intro to R for biologists and Data analysis & visualisation in R for biologists programming courses, which she is running termly as a part of the MSD Skills Training Program.

Irina is an active member of the Early Career Research Committee of the Department. She represents the Department of Paediatrics and chairs MSD Research Staff Forum as a part of Research Staff Hub. She is a representative of the Medical Science Division in Research Staff Consultation Group.

Irina has a Medical Degree (Russian National Research Medical University) followed by PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Hamburg. She also holds a Master's Degree in Economics (University of Hamburg), with a focus on Health Economics.

From 2015, Irina mainly focused on the bioinformatics part of the research and moved from the wet-laboratory to the data analysis. She was working with a variety of deep-sequencing data, including Ribosome profiling, RNA sequencing, T-cell receptor sequencing, and Oxford Nanopore sequencing.
