Giving Day 2024

Find out below how you can help make our 5th Giving Day a success

36 hours to make a difference

Our 5th Giving Day is happening!

What's a Giving Day?

Good question – essentially it's a 36-hour campaign to celebrate what's great and unique about Wadham and its community...and an important opportunity to make a difference to today's students by raising funds for student hardship, welfare support, graduate scholarships, Wadham's pioneering widening access programme and much more.

It's a digital campaign that utilises emails, a donation platform and social media to generate awareness and support around the global community but, like each year, there will be in-person activities in and around College to help promote the campaign and celebrate what's best about Wadham.

This will mark Wadham’s 5th Giving Day, a 36-hour campaign held over 15-16 May. Giving Days are opportunities to celebrate everything wonderful, cool and fun at – and about – Wadham. They are also key opportunities to raise funds for student support and our widening access work. Nearly 1,500 people have supported our past four Giving Days – mainly alumni but also staff, Fellows and students – who have together raised £675K to date! In addition, the entire Wadham community has come together through a variety of activities to make each campaign unique and special.

Where do I donate?

Our 2024 Giving Day platform is currently under construction but is here.

Calling student involvement!

Giving Days celebrate what makes Wadham great and unique, but they are essentially fundraising campaigns, organised to help fund Wadham's pioneering widening access work, the College's welfare support and to help ensure that students facing financial hardship have the support they need to continue their studies.

You can help make them a success by getting involved in the various activities being organised. You can help spread awareness via social media using #WadhamGivingDay2024. You can pitch your own ideas for Giving Day activities. Feel free to email (details below) with any thoughts or questions relating to this.

Academic and non-academic staff are key to its success too!

We are devising a range of activities with your input that will help us engage with counterparts in College as well as with alumni around the world. The pub quiz has become a perennial favourite, as well as the Merifield vs DWB football challenge, and we are looking into a bake sale and more. The theme this year, which coincides with the Wadham Garden Play, is 'Dorothy in Wadhamland. The AI-generated image was created by Wolfgang "Chris" Wild.

Whatever activity you get involved in, share it on social media and use the hashtag #WadhamGivingDay2024.

Giving Day so far...

Giving Day activities begin well before the day itself! Our students have already been showing their Wadham pride and Giving Day spirit. There have been Dorothy in Wadhamland tatoos and face paint at Wadstock, and Merifield took on the Dorothy Wadham Building in a Giving Day football face-off.

"... the faces of Wadstock’s attendees are adorned with masterpieces courtesy of student volunteers from across Oxford."

DWB's determination paid off and the score was 6-2 to them when the final whistle blew.
