Congratulations to our Professor of English and World Literatures and Tutorial Fellow

The 2026 cohort of Fellows and Honorary Fellows were inducted into the Royal Society of Literature (RSL) on Monday 29 June 2026 at the RSL’s annual summer party. Many congratulations to all, including our Professor of English and World Literatures and Tutorial Fellow, Ankhi Mukherjee, who is among the 22 new Fellows.

The Royal Society of Literature (RSL) is a charity for the advancement of literature. The organisation acts as a voice for the value of literature, honour and encourage great writers, and engages people in reading through an annual programme of awards and prizes. Led by writers, with a community of over 800 Fellows, the RSL represents the breadth of literary excellence across the UK.

Prof Mukherjee said: "The RSL is an allied but non-identical group of writers for whom literature is profession and vocation, madness and mission. Being elected to this society takes me back to first principles: reading deeply and widely, writing like your life depends on it, bringing new readerships into being, and protecting books."

Congratulations to Prof Mukerjee and all new Fellows of the RSL.
