Farewell to Andrew Little

We celebrated Andrew's truly amazing 40 years as Wadham's Head Gardener at his retirement lunch.
Andrew and guests at his retirement lunch
We held a special summer event in our Private Fellows' Garden to thank Andrew and wish him a wonderful retirement in October 2024.
The lunch in a marquee fittingly decorated with beautiful floral displays was attended by Andrew's family as well as many his friends among our staff and fellows. After some moving speeches, including from Andrew's daughter, Louise, who, with her brother George, grew up with Wadham's grounds as their family's back garden, our Warden, Robert Hannigan, Domestic Bursar, Frances Lloyd, and Chaplain, Jane Baun, presented Andrew with some gifts. They included a painting of of the Private Fellows’ Garden by our librarian and talented artist, Tim Kirtley, and a selection of wines from the cellar. Andrew was also given a key to the Private Fellows’ Garden and his wife, Sue, was presented with flowers. The archway through to the greenhouses will be named the Little Arch.
In this short film, Andrew, chats to new Head Gardener, David. We hear how Andrew feels about passing on the baton after 40 years and David's thoughts on taking on the role; and what they have each learned from each other during the handover period.
Many thanks to Andrew for the beautiful College grounds that so many of us have enjoyed. We wish him well in everything that he does next.
