Snapshots from student and alumni life this Hilary term, as seen through three events.

Alumni Society Dinner

On Saturday 16 March we were delighted to welcome back alumni and their partners for the annual Wadham Alumni Society Dinner. This was a wonderfully festive occasion, starting with a drinks reception in the ante-chapel accompanied by a light jazz student ensemble, generously sponsored by Ross Hutchinson (Philosophy & Modern Languages, 1979).

Guests then made their way to Hall to hear alumna and acclaimed writer Monica Ali (PPE, 1986) interviewed by the Warden, before the Q&A was opened up to a lively audience. The catering team served up a sumptuous banquet to a full Hall, where alumni groups celebrating significant 10-year milestones also enjoyed a complimentary champagne toast. Following a welcome from the Warden and an inspirational speech from WAS president Sachin Patel (Physics, 2001) over desert, the party continued in the bar where new and old connections were made over drinks until midnight...

Cabaret

Over this academic year, the Wadham College Music Society has been reinvigorated and in late February the students behind it organised an ambitious cabaret event in the Holywell Music Room.

"A band warming up, the crowd taking their seats, our host stepping onto the stage and tapping that old-school mic? Could it be? Yes it’s really … the first ever (hopefully annual) Wadham College Music Society’s CABARET," read some of the promotional material.

The event promised and delivered on fabulous lighting, incredible costumes, and hosts serving drinks all night long during the variety performance. Performers hailed from across Oxford and brought their best acts, including singing, dancing, instrument-playing, puppets, clowning, comedy and more!

Let's hope it is indeed the first of many!

A rite of passage as student becomes alumnus!

Degree Day

We were able to catch students on their way to a degree ceremony earlier in March. Many were willing to stop, have a few photos taken, and chat about their next steps! We hope that our newest graduates will come back to Wadham soon and often. You're part of a big alumni family now! Congratulations everyone.
