Wadham College welcomes its new Honorary Fellows

We are delighted to announce the appointment of three new Honorary Fellows.
The Honourable Anita Anand PC MP, Warren East CBE, and Simon Smith CMG
An Honorary Fellowship is the highest honour conferred by our Governing Body to its illustrious alumni and associates.
The Honourable Anita Anand PC MP (BA Jurisprudence, 1989) is a lawyer and politician who has served as the Canadian minister of national defence. From 2019 to 2021, she served as minister of public services and procurement and oversaw Canada’s procurement of vaccines and personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. As minister of national defence, she led Canada’s efforts to provide military aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022. Anita Anand is now President of the Treasury Board. She has held academic positions at Yale, Queen’s University, Western University, and the University of Toronto.
Warren East, CBE FRS FREng FIET FBCS (BSc Engineering Science, 1980) is the former chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Holdings. He has also held senior positions at ARM Holdings and Texas Instruments. After graduating from Wadham College, he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Cranfield School of Management at Cranfield University. Warren East was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours, for services to the technology industry. In 2017 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. He is a Companion (CCMI) of the Chartered Management Institute.
Simon Smith CMG (BA Modern Languages, 1980) is a British diplomat, now retired. He served as Ambassador to Austria 2007 – 2012. He was the UK's representative to many UN and international organisations in Vienna, including as the UK's Governor on the Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He was Ambassador to Ukraine 2012-2015. Simon Smith took up the post of Ambassador to South Korea in 2018.
