We celebrated the publication of 'Omissions in Tort Law' by Sandy Steel with a book launch.

Date Published: 10.02.2025

Our Fellow in Law's new book provides readers with an understanding of the basic principles that underpin this area of law.

Sandy Steel, David Enoch, Nick McBride, Helen Scott, and Lord Burrows.

We welcomed a full house to the book launch for Omissions in Tort Law by our Fellow and Tutor in Law, Sandy Steel. Published by Oxford University Press in 2024, 'Omissions in Tort Law' offers philosophical and doctrinal analysis of omissions. This rare book-length exploration of positive duties to act in current law allows readers to understand a controversial legal subject area.

Panelists, Lord Burrows (UK Supreme Court); David Enoch (Oxford); and Helen Scott (Cambridge), commented on elements of the text, which they described as 'a sophisticated synthesis of the philosophical and the legal', which 'will have a big impact on the way the law will develop.' Sandy responded to their comments and took questions from the audience, chaired by Nick McBride (Cambridge).

Congratulations to Sandy on publication of this important book and thank you to all panelists and audience members who joined us for the event.
