Un-fair Trade in Global Supply Chains; and what we can do about it

This Oxford Fair Trade Coalition event, held in Europe’s oldest purpose-built concert hall, brings together producers, academics and UK specialists to highlight unfair practices and outline practical ways citizens and businesses can help drive change.

Fair pay for producers worldwide should be fundamental. At the same time farmers and workers in countries such as Ghana have contributed least to the climate crisis yet face its harshest effects. Complex global supply chains can deepen these inequalities when misused.

Speakers include:
• Prof Stephanie Barrientos, Emeritus Professor at the Global Development Institute
• Felix Tetteh, Fairtrade International Youth Ambassador, cocoa farmer and Compliance Officer
• Alex Nicholls, Professor of Social Entrepreneurship and co-founder of the Skoll Centre and the Skoll World Forum.
• Pauline Tiffen, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Fair Trade, founder member of the World Fair Trade Organisation.

To make the most of the historic venue, the event will also feature a performance by East Oxford’s Feisty Choir, known for contemporary a cappella works by female composers.

The Oxford Fair Trade Coalition’s work promotes an Oxford where people and planet are placed before profit, and where responsible businesses and communities can thrive.
