Many congratulations to our alumna.
We are pleased to congratulate our alumna, Heather Stevens (BA Experimental Psychology, 1976), on being made a Dame in the King’s Birthday Honours List. Heather receives a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to the environment, young people and philanthropy in Wales.
Dame Heather is a Pro-Chancellor and Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University and an Honorary Visiting Professor in their College of Biomedical and Life Sciences. In 2007, she founded, with her husband, David, The Waterloo Foundation, a grant-making trust that supports projects in children’s neurodevelopment, girls’ education overseas, water and sanitation projects and supports work protecting rainforests and the marine environment. The Foundation’s work in Wales focuses on young carers and getting people into work and out of poverty.
Dame Heather was made a CBE in 2010 and served as the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan in 2015. She is the Secretary of Global Fishing Watch, Chair of the Greenpeace Oceans board, and a former trustee of Oceana and the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Robert Hannigan congratulated Dame Heather, saying:
Heather's appointment as a Dame is a richly deserved recognition of her outstanding service to education, the environment and philanthropy. Everyone at Wadham is enormously proud to celebrate this honour with her. Through her generous support of the College's gardens and her leadership in helping Wadham become an exemplar college for sustainability and net zero, Heather has made a lasting contribution to our community.
