Lucy McDermott is awarded the Goodger and Schorstein Research Scholarship

Lucy McDermott, JRF in Medical Sciences, has been awarded the Goodger and Schorstein Research Scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to assist research in Medical Sciences.

Lucy will use the £10,000 independent award to study proteins that may affect the on/off switch of the enzyme SARM1. SARM1 is thought to be the master controller of Wallerian degeneration and the gene represents one of the best therapeutic targets in decades for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.
