Wadham's Honorary Fellow is one of six individuals awarded honorary degrees at Encaenia 2024.
Celia Hannigan, Robert Hannigan, Warren East, and Amanda East
Warren East CBE was awarded an honorary degree for his contributions to the worlds of engineering and business. Warren was CEO of Rolls-Royce Holdings from 2015-2022 and prior to that was CEO of ARM Holdings - the company that designed the CPU architecture behind the smartphone revolution.
Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and Chair of the Committee on Honorary Degrees, said: "We are delighted to mark this special day in the University's calendar and to recognise the outstanding contribution that our six honorands have made to their respective fields.
From AI, engineering and economics, to music, medicine and the world of television and travel writing, our honorands have impacted our world in so many different ways..."
As the Chair of Wadham’s Development Council, Warren helped launch and deliver the College's hugely successful Access to Excellence campaign and championed Wadham’s belief that wider access leads to higher academic standards. Wadham is grateful for Warren's partnership and congratulates him on receiving this further distinguished honour at Encaenia.
Our Warden, Robert Hannigan, said, “An Honorary Doctorate from the University is a rare honour both for the recipient and the College, recognising the national and international impact in many fields. We are delighted and very proud that Warren East, alumnus and Honorary Fellow, has been honoured this year for his great contributions to engineering and business.”
