One scholarship is open to applicants to the full-time Master of Public Policy course and the other scholarship is open to applicants to any full-time one-year taught Masters course to which Wadham admits. In both cases they should be normally resident in Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe, and they will be expected to show evidence of their intention to return to their home country on completion of their course.
Money available: The scholarships will cover course fees in full, plus a stipend in line with that offered by the equivalent UK research council (estimated £18,622 in 2023-24).
Application details: Applicants should apply directly to the Beit Trust, who will be responsible for interviewing and shortlisting candidates. In addition applicants must make a graduate application to the relevant faculty or department at Oxford by the relevant admissions deadline. Further details can be found on the Beit Trust website.
Who can apply? Applicants to any one-year full-time Masters course in the Humanities Division for which Wadham admits students. Applicants must be ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom and of Black or Mixed-Black ethnicity in order to be eligible.
Money available: The scholarship covers course fees and provides a grant for living expenses at UK Research Council rates (estimated £18,622 in 2023-24).
Application process: Applicants must apply to the University of Oxford for admission to a Master’s degree in the Humanities Division by the relevant January application deadline, including ethnicity information when they do so. No separate application is required to be considered for this award, and applicants do not need to nominate Wadham as their preferred college. All eligible applicants will be considered automatically. Further details relating to this scheme can be found on the University website.
Who can apply? Those reading for, or having applied to read for, a graduate degree at the University of Oxford in any subject. The scholarship was endowed by the late E. W. M. Brookman, an old member of the College, in memory of his son, John Meredith Brookman (1926-80). The Brookman Music Scholar will actively participate in the musical life of the College, reporting to the Director of Music, Tom Hammond-Davies.
Money Available: The John Brookman Music Scholarship provides £3400 per academic year. The Brookman Fund may also assist with certain expenses such as instrumental tuition or piano hire. The Brookman Music Scholar will also be entitled to one free High Table Dinner per week during full term (8 per term).
Application process: Applicants for the Brookman Music Scholar position should email their full CV to graduate.admissions@wadham.ox.ac.uk. Applicants should also ask their referees to email their references to the Graduate Administrator (on the email above) by this same date.
We anticipate that shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in Oxford during early May 2024. The interview will consist of a discussion of the candidates’ musical interests (theoretical, cultural, or practical in any instrument/voice). Candidates should be ready to talk about their ideas for being involved in, and developing, the musical life of the College. All candidates will be required to give a short performance on their instrument or voice of between a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 minutes.
