Wadham congratulates Liza Marshall (Modern History, 1991) on the film's success.
The big screen adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel, Hamnet won the 2026 Golden Globe Award for best drama at the ceremony hosted in Beverly Hills, California. Members of the Hamnet cast and wider team celebrated the win, including Liza Marshall, a Wadham alumna (Modern History, 1991) and producer for the film.
Wadham College congratulates Liza and the Hamnet team on the film's success at the Golden Globes, which also delivered a best female actor award for Jessie Buckley's portrayal of Agnes.
The story of Hamnet explores the romance between Agnes and William Shakespeare, and the tragedy that inspired Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet.
Liza is also the founder and managing director of Hera Pictures, now 'one of the UK's leading film and TV production hubs', with a particular emphasis on identifying and promoting the careers of talented women and on telling the stories of remarkable women in the past and present.
She previously produced the hit show Riviera and the BAFTA-nominated The State. She established and ran Scott Free London for Ridley Scott (Before I go to sleep, Get Santa, Welcome to the Punch, Life in a Day, Taboo) and prior to this was Head of Drama at Channel 4 for five years, executive producing many shows including The Red Riding Trilogy, Boy A, The Devil’s Whore, Misfits, Top Boy and The Unloved. She began her producing career at the BBC where she was responsible for many award-winning dramas including The Long Firm, Eroica and The Sins.
Liza has achieved significant success and respect in a very male-dominated industry. In addition to the multiple awards won by different components of her productions, she has been nominated for 3 BAFTA awards as producer and has won one.
She is very involved in public debates about changing hubs and media in relation to content consumption, and takes very seriously her own role in producing innovative and influential drama.
Wadham wishes Liza continued success in the future.
