The big screen adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel was produced by our alumna, Liza Marshall.

Jessie Buckley wins the best actress category at the 2026 Oscars for her portrayal of Agnes Shakespeare.

Produced by our alumna, Liza Marshall, the story of Hamnet explores the romance between Agnes and William Shakespeare, and the tragedy that inspired Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet. Jessie Buckley became the first Irish winner of the Oscar for best actress in the film. She was previously recognised for this role with a best female actor award at the Golden Globes, at which 'Hamnet' won the 2026 award for best drama. The film was nominated in several categories at the Oscars, including best picture.

We congratulate Jessie Buckley and the Hamnet team, including our alumna and the film's producer, Liza Marshall, on the film's success.

Liza Marshall is also the founder and managing director of Hera Pictures, now 'one of the UK's leading film and TV production hubs', with a particular emphasis on identifying and promoting the careers of talented women and on telling the stories of remarkable women in the past and present.
