Meeting Minds 2024 was a weekend of thrilling talks and tours for Oxford alumni. The speakers covered a huge range of topics and recordings of some of the talks have been made available by the University's Alumni Office.

Recordings of ten lectures held at the Maths Institute on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 September are available to listen to, if you were not able to attend or would like to listen to again. We are proud to share these, including some with a Wadham connection.

Five @ Fifty: the first co-ed colleges looking to the future

In 1974, Brasenose, Hertford, Jesus, St Catherine’s, and Wadham became the first five traditionally male colleges to admit female students. In this panel discussion, alumni from the colleges (including journalist and author, Mary Ann Sieghart (PPE, 1979)) came together, along with Vice Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey, to celebrate what has been achieved over the last 50 years, and consider the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Are our Economies Ready for Climate Change?

Professor Alexander Teytelboym (Wadham, 2008) and a panel of senior business advisors and researchers in the field of environmental economics discussed how business leaders and governments should think about climate change, how to build in resilience in our global economies and the economic principles raised by one of the defining global issues of our time.

Visualizing Quantum Matter at Atomic Scale

Everything each of us has ever experienced and virtually everything underpinning our technological society and economy is governed by quantum mechanics. Yet this most fundamental physical theory of nature often feels as if it is a set of counterintuitive ideas of no direct relevance to our lives. Professor J.C. Séamus Davis (Wadham Senior Research Fellow) described the development of techniques that allow us to visualize electronic quantum phenomena and new states of quantum matter directly at the atomic scale.
