Warden Reconnects with Hong Kong alumni

Our small Wadham delegation was delighted to join the annual Wadham Hong Kong alumni reunion and reconnect with old friends and share news from Oxford and Hong Kong. As one of the most active and tight knit alumni groups anywhere, our Hong Kong alumni have made friends across subject areas and generations, and it was a tonic to hear about the contributions everyone is making to their communities.

Alumni Reunion

The Warden, Robert Hannigan CMG, his wife, Celia, and Fellow & Director of Development, Julie Hage, were delighted to be returning to Hong Kong in May for a wonderful gathering of Wadham College alumni and friends at a Hong Kong Alumni Reception. The event provided an opportunity for more than fifty alumni and friends to reconnect, share their experiences, and hear updates on recent developments at Wadham College.

Held at the prestigious Hong Kong Club, and kindly sponsored by Foundation Fellow, William Doo (Law, 1993), the evening featured engaging conversations, networking opportunities, and a warm atmosphere that reflected the strong bonds within the Wadham community. We were delighted to be joined by so many of our Lee Shau Kee Scholars.

The Warden emphasised the shared values between the UK and Hong Kong—education as a transformative force and the importance of global engagement, principles deeply embedded in Wadham’s mission.

A heartfelt tribute was also paid to the late Dr Lee Shau Kee, whose philanthropy has empowered generations of talented students at Oxford and beyond, with the LSK Scholarship scheme producing scholars who excel academically at unprecedented levels.

Wadham Visit to the Hendersen Building

The Wadham delegation was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Lee family during their visit and pay tribute to Dr Lee Shau Kee’s extraordinary life and transformative contributions to education. The Warden, his wife Celia and Julie Hage were grateful to be given a special tour of the Lee family’s new iconic headquarters for the Henderson Land group, “The Henderson”, in central Hong Kong.

Conceived by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, the building is one of Hong Kong’s boldest new buildings, designed in organic forms inspired by the bud of he bauhinia flower, the symbol of Hong Kong. The College is looking forward to honouring Dr Lee’s contributions to Oxford and Wadham over many decades, and we will be sharing news on this front in the near furture.
