Biography
Bill McColl came to Wadham in 1985 as Fellow and Tutor in Computation.
Bill was Professor of Computer Science, head of the Parallel Computing Research Group, and Chairman of Oxford Parallel, a major research centre at the University for industrial applications of large-scale parallel computing. Along with Prof Leslie Valiant of Harvard, he developed the BSP (bulk synchronous parallel) approach to parallel programming, which is now used at all the major web companies - Google, Facebook, Yahoo and others - for their analysis of big data from massive graphs and networks with billions of nodes.
