Charlie Hutchison Project

The Charlie Hutchison Project is an innovative research project which gives NewVic sixth form students, and other pupils studying in Newham and Tower Hamlets, the opportunity to carry out first hand research, visit Wadham, join webinars and take part in a seminar here.

Students will conduct archival research with the Marx Memorial Library, to uncover more about the life of Charlie Hutchison, the first black British volunteer in the Spanish Civil War.

The project is designed to develop study skills, help with personal statements and shape our understanding of Charlie’s life and the wider themes.
