This video discusses this 450 year-old European masterpiece and its narration of Vasco da Gama's sea voyage to India. Together, Cláudia Pazos Alonso (Professor of Portuguese and Gender, Wadham College) and Simon Park (Associate Professor in Medieval and Renaissance Portuguese, St Anne’s) explore Camões’ relationship with empire, while also considering some of the moments that resist a unified view of European colonial history in the making.
