This is a felt decoupage sewn onto handmade paper representing a dandelion, which traditionally symbolises hope, healing and resilience. The flower is part of a series of works that Kate is doing in London in support of the UNHCR, named “The Seeds of Hope’’. The city-wide installation will run from 16 May across the whole of London.
Kate will install small bio-degradable flowers at 17 locations in the city, linking to a repository of filmed stories about refugees and asylum-seekers. Portraying mankind’s attachment to the world around him, as well as using seeds as an analogy for people, this project is a reminder of the enormous power we each have to make a difference. Just as seeds blown by the wind can flourish under the right circumstances, the project will illustrate how refugees with the right support and community engagement can and do thrive.
Daudy’s interventions across the city call to mind the oneness of humanity and the fact that we are all connected.
Kate is a fellow of Colombia University at the Institute of Ideas and The Imagination, Paris.
